Stuart Trevor

Stuart Trevor is a Scottish-born fashion designer and entrepreneur, who founded high-street brand All Saints, and most recently, his own eponymous label, STUART TREVOR.

In a career spanning more than 40 years, Trevor first began to make waves in the world of fashion back in 1983, as a finalist in the Paul Smith / Mont Blanc competition. Two years later he won ‘Designer of The Year’ at The Smirnoff Fashion awards Menswear Day, and at 19, became the first designer, and main buyer for REISS.

Less than a decade later, aged just 28, Stuart founded retail group All Saints – named after both his nickname “The Saint”, and All Saints Road in Notting Hill where the aspiring young designer spent much of his time.

The first stand-alone All Saints store was opened in Foubert Place (off Carnaby Street) in London on All Saints Day in 1997.

Stuart remained Creative Director of the brand until 2006, before launching men’s and women’s wear label Bolongaro Trevor in 2007.

Now on a mission to build the world’s most sustainable brand, Stuart launches his new eponymous label, made up of an amazing range of clothes from recycled clothing or dead stock fabric.

“We want to turn this phrase ‘dead stock’ into ‘living stock’, and make buying sustainable products exciting,” Trevor says of the inspiration behind his latest venture. “Our pieces are reworked, rebranded, cut up, distressed, and reimagined with care – patched, printed, hand painted, sprayed, washed and embroidered, often with ‘less is more’ in mind.”

“Our aim is to actively reduce the number of new clothes made, and reduce the environmental impact of any clothes that are made. We want to do this by keeping clothes in circulation, by reimagining vintage and second-hand clothing, as well as choosing the most sustainable methods to make any are essential lines, like underwear and t-shirts.”

We caught up with Stuart Trevor for the latest in our ‘My London’ interview series.

Favourite neighbourhood:

Hoxton, where my studio is.

Favourite place for brunch:

I really like Curious Yellow Kafe on Pitfield Street – it’s our local cafe where we meet virtually every day. It’s very shabby chic, and everything is handmade, with love, by a lovely lady who makes exciting daily specials.

Best coffee in London:

Climpson & Sons at Broadway Market is really good.

Favourite gallery or museum:

I always enjoy visiting Muphoria on Berwick Street in Soho. It’s a rock n roll art gallery where we currently have a pop up shop that sells my amazing new sustainable rock n roll fashion collection.

Tell us a secret…

The secret of life is: be kind, be nice, be polite, and make people smile.

Favourite place to shop:

STUART TREVOR HQ in Hoxton. Home of my new sustainable fashion brand – what about a clothing brand that doesn’t produce any clothing?

Favourite place to find inspiration:

There are several places I go to find inspiration. The Wallace Collection museum in London, Clignancourt flea market in Paris, and then any mid west USA vintage stores.

Best London destination for a date:

The Gun on Well Street Hackney. It’s actually where I met my future ex wife Natalie Papagorgeous on our first date.

Favourite park:

That’s easy one! For me it will always be Victoria Park.

Favourite food market:

I’m a big fan of Broadway Market.

Your sanctuary in the city:

My home.

What inspires you?

David Bowie, Kate Bush, Post Punk and British sub culture.

This season I’m loving…

Hand painted, hand embroidered, hand sewn, hand crafted – made with love – in limited edition.
