Lila Moss Teams Up with Mattel to Launch First-Ever Barbie Doll with Type 1 Diabetes

British model Lila Moss has teamed up with Mattel to launch the first-ever Barbie doll with Type 1 diabetes, marking a significant step forward in toy inclusivity.

As part of the 2025 Barbie Fashionistas collection, this groundbreaking release features a doll equipped with a continuous glucose monitor (secured with heart-shaped pink medical tape), an insulin pump at the waist, and a stylish blue polka-dot outfit symbolising diabetes awareness.

The doll also comes with a pastel blue purse for carrying essentials like snacks and diabetes supplies.

Inclusive Design & Advocacy

The doll was developed in partnership with Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF), who ensured accuracy in representing real-life diabetes management.

The launch occurred at the Breakthrough T1D Children’s Congress in Washington, D.C., where Mattel also donated dolls to attendees.

Lila Moss: A Voice for Representation

A long-time Type 1 diabetes advocate, Lila Moss, daughter of Kate Moss, has been open about her condition since childhood.

On the launch, she said, “I am proud to use my platform to educate around Type 1 diabetes and show that being different is cool. Receiving messages from people who see my patches and feel represented means everything to me.”

She added that seeing a Barbie doll “that visibly looks like me even wearing her patches, is both surreal and special”.

Mattel’s Ongoing Mission

Krista Berger, Barbie’s Senior Vice President and Global Head of Dolls, emphasised the importance of visibility, stating that this doll “marks an important step in our commitment to inclusivity and representation”.

The Fashionistas range already includes dolls with Down syndrome, hearing aids, prosthetic limbs, and other diverse characteristics.

Price & Availability

Priced at approximately lb13.99, the doll is available through Mattel’s official store and major toy retailers as part of the global 2025 Fashionistas launch.
