My London: Ꭼlys Hutchinson – model & co-founder of Haus of Hutch

Ꭼlys Hutchinson is an English and Swiss model, entrepreneur, and reality star best known for being a fan favourite on Netflix’s hit series, Too Hot to Handle and Perfect Match.

Born and raised in Switzerland, Elys began modelling as a teenager in addition to following her passion for winter sports, where she worked as a ski instructor.

In 2023, Hutchinson appeared on the fifth season of reality tv dating show Too Hot To Handle – winning the series and scooping $50,000 of the competitions prize money, before going on to star in yet another love-themed Netflix series Perfect Match earlier this year.

Away from television, Elys is the co-founder of Haus of Hutch – a much sought-after event space in London that serves as a hub for creators, entrepreneurs, and brands.

Founded by creatives, for creatives…

Elys Hutchinson

As two sisters with very different personalities, but who often get mistaken for twins, it was a no brainer for siblings Elys and Siena Hutchinson to leverage their different talents to launch Haus of Hutch.

Combining both their strengths, and varied life experiences, the sisters say they hope to inspire the next generation of creatives by “igniting passion, fueling inspiration, and empowering them to unleash their talents upon the world”.

We caught up with Elys Hutchinson for the latest in our ‘My London’ interview series.

Favourite neighbourhood:

My favourite neighbourhood is definitely Marylebone. My father has a place there, and my sister lives just around the corner. I also lived in the area for four years, so it holds a special place in my heart. From pubs, trendy bars to insane restaurants, tons of gyms, and lots of shops, Marylebone has so much to offer. It’s right next to Hyde Park which is hugely important to me. Coming from the Swiss alps, I need nature every single day.

Favourite place for brunch:

Definitely BEAM in Notting Hill. I used to live round the corner from it too. It was my flat mate and I’s spot that year, and I still can’t get enough! Another is Tashas in Battersea power station – I fell in love with the food when I visited Cape Town.

Best coffee in London:

That’s a tricky one because I LOVE coffee, and have so many to choose from. I’m going to say Blank Street – they have a cute pop-up van in Battersea that I love going to.

Favourite gallery or museum:

I love the Saatchi Gallery in Sloane Square, Chelsea. I’ve been to many great exhibitions there. The Tate Modern is also amazing, but the Saatchi feels more intimate.

Tell us a secret:

It wouldn’t be a secret if I told you now would it…

Favourite place to shop:

I like mixing and matching my styles based on my mood each day. Variety is key to me because we all have different moods, hobbies, and places to be, and I believe that clothing is a great way to express that diversity. It allows me to showcase different aspects of my personality and adapt to the ever-changing situations and experiences life throws my way, that be sport, travelling, going on Netflix shows or just chilling in the Swiss alps.

Favourite place to find inspiration:

Pinterest is my favourite place to draw inspiration across fashion, design, art, etc. I’ve always loved photography, and Pinterest has such great photo inspiration.

Best London destination for a date:

For date night, my top choice would definitely be any London Soho House. They always have a great vibe and the dim lighting can always help set the mood or boost confidence if you’re on a first date. If things get a bit awkward, the atmosphere is always buzzing and lively, so it never feels too serious. It’s the perfect setting for a relaxed and enjoyable date night. That’s actually where my boyfriend and I had our first date so I may be biassed!

Favourite park:

My favourite park in London has to be Battersea Park. It’s a must-visit if you’re in the city. The park has lots of tennis and paddle courts. There’s also a fun bar called “Pear Tree” with music and lots of people every day! I love having picnics with my friends there.

Favourite food market:

I love the Borough Market, or the one in Sloane Square. I don’t often go to markets but I really should go more often!

Your sanctuary in the city:

My photo studio Haus of Hutch is my safe place in London. It allows me to feel calm and creative. I started it with my sister this year and every time I’m there I feel so proud of what we’ve accomplished. She’s my best friend and we’ve always wanted to create something together. Sitting there or working from it really makes me feel a huge wave of calmness in such a busy city.

What inspires you in the fashion industry?

I love how the creativity never ends and there are always new styles. For me, fashion is a key way to express yourself, feel confident, and enhance your personality. Feeling good is everything. I also love the feeling of working towards buying a piece that I’ve wanted for a while. It always feels so good when you’re able to treat yourself and be able to wear it. It’s amazing what a good outfit can do.

This season I’m loving…

This season I’m loving football tops with sparkly ballerina flats. I love adding some edge to a very feminine outfit. It represents me well, I’ve always been a tom-boy but love tapping into my femininity. Mixing them makes me feel good.
